Throughout the year special events take place in the life of Saint James Brethren Church. Many of these events include some form of food and fellowship. These events are an annual tradition...
Chrismon Service...Christmas is a special time of activities at Saint James Brethren Church. The Chrismon Service is held on the first Sunday of December each year. The congregation comes together for an evening of celebration, decorating the Christmas tree with symbols of Christ called Chrismons. Soloists, vocal and instrumental musical groups along with congregational singing contribute to a special evening honoring our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Christmas Eve Service...On Christmas Eve the congregation comes together once again for a evening of solemn worship. Celebrating the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, includes scripture readings, Christmas carols and a brief time of meditation by the pastor. The evening concludes with the sharing of the Eucharist, the bread and cup communion. All participants who profess belief in Jesus Christ are invited to partake of the communion bread and cup at the conclusion of this service. Three-fold Communion Service...Saint James Brethren Church practices the three-fold communion service semi-annually; we observe the feet washing as a symbol of cleansing, the supper which teaches brotherly love and unity, and the eucharistic emblems of our Lord's sacrifice which is the bread and cup. This solemn and soul-searching service is scheduled in the months of October and April. The Brethren follow the pattern of Jesus and His disciples "on the night in which He was betrayed": He took the form of a slave and washed His disciples' feet, He broke bread and shared the cup of wine, all in the context of a shared meal in the upper room. Who is invited to His table? All who name the name of Christ, all who seek to follow Him as a disciple and proclaim Him as Lord, whether a member of Saint James Brethren Church or not. In addition...During the course of the year, the church calendar also includes many other social occasions.
